Australia Day at Fort Scratchley
This Australia Day the guns will be firing at Fort Scratchley and they'll be fired by some very special guests. 24 Front Line First Responder Covid Medical Staff will be very special guests at the 1pm Firing of the Guns at Fort Scratchley on Australia Day. 6 rounds will also be fired at 11am and 3pm with 24 rounds being fired at 1pm. Tunnel tours won't be running on Australia Day, but all exhibition rooms will be open with Morse Code Demonstrations and a sausage sizzle and coffee available all day.
Lake Art Prize 2020 Finalist Exhibition
The winner of the inaugural Lake Art Prize 2020 was announced on 11 December 2020 as Chelle Destefano, for her work Navigating to Safe Space 2020. Artists from across Australia were invited to submit works for the prize responding to the theme 'Where there is Water', and Destefano's work was selected as the winner from over 600 submissions. The Lake Art Prize 2020 Finalist exhibition is on display at MAC, 1A First Street Booragul until 7 February. Visitors are welcome to place a vote in the Lake Art Prize 2020 People's Choice Award. University of Newcastle’s Law On The Beach
After a challenging 2020, the University of Newcastle Legal Centre’s pop-up clinic at Merewether beach is returning to offer free legal advice to individuals struggling with any law-related matters. Staffed by law students and social work students in their final years of study, and supervised by accredited lawyers, Law on the Beach provides an opportunity for people to ask questions on all legal matters – from tenancy issues to employment. NC and Lake Macquarie Art Society Exhibition
The NC and Lake Macquarie Art Society Exhibition is being held at Charlestown Shopping Centre from January 25 to February 7. Leprosy still exits. Did you know that every 2 minutes, a person is diagnosed with leprosy? For people affected by leprosy, the battle isn't only against the disease, it is also against the despair of being rejected by their community. Help to stop the pain of rejection for people affected by leprosy this World Leprosy Day (or hold your own) on Sunday 31 January. Your support will help with early diagnosis and treatment of leprosy and help stop it from leading to nerve damage, ulcers and permanent disability.
