New Members wanted – ANZAC Remembrance

Central Coast Commemoration Guard is a not for profit community group that provides Catafalque party, flag bearers and guard for Remembrance services all over the Central Coast, visiting Aged Care facilities, sporting fixtures, schools and events.

The close order military drill that displayed invokes conversation and memory in aged care residents. Schools report that their students are totally engaged and promotes interest from children in Australia’s involvement in all wars and conflicts.

Clubs often give feedback that the guard adds a sense of occasion to their event of Remembrance and promotes a larger attendance.

Central Coast Commemoration Guard's mission is involve youth in ANZAC.

The unit is in need of new young members, male and female, aged 12+ to be trained as flag bearers and guards. Training is once per month.

Wrap With Love Inc is an Australia wide not for profit, volunteer run organization that provides wraps worldwide to keep people warm.  WWL is deliberately not a charity but a “Mission Of Mercy”, a positive organization that crafts blankets for those around the world in desperate need of warmth. A Wrap With Love personal wrap comprises 28 squares, 25cm X 25cm [10″ X10″] sewn together in 4 rows of 7 squares. Overall size 100 cm X 175 cm [40″ X 70″] when completed.  A wrap can be knitted, crocheted, machine knitted or woven, with wool acrylic or lined patchwork. Hunter Adults Financial Collaborative is running two workshops to help disadvantaged people explore developing mind skills and resilience. There are two workshops one on  17 September and one on 24 September. Each workshop runs from 10am to 2pm. The workshops will be run by Dr Kath Bicknell from Intelligent Action. Toranafest 2024 is happening at Maitland Park on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2024.

As well as over 500 cars registered to take part again in 2024, there will be market stalls, displays, live entertainment and much, much more.  Money raised from Toranafest 2024 will benefit Ronald McDonald House and Dog Rescue Newcastle, so go along and support these really worthy causes.

Join the fight at the Ping Pong A thon.  The Ping Pong-A-Thon is a fundraising & advocacy movement, combating human trafficking and exploitation of young people in South-East Asia through a series of table tennis events held every year.

Schools, universities, churches, workplaces, sporting clubs and pubs across Australia and the USA, host table tennis events between 3 hours and 24 hours in length. Participants sign up to play at their venue of choice and invite family/friends to sponsor their efforts or to simply donate to the cause. Funds raised support the work of several organisations combating the slavery of some of the most vulnerable young people in our world.

Back for their third year, a group of 25 riders will ride from Dubbo to Bulga, raising money for the Mark Hughes Foundation. The team have big goals for this year and are determination to raise money for those impacted by Brain Cancer. 

The ride is in memory of Dale Harris and Mick Ford, two great mates who sadly both passed away from brain cancer. 

The ride kicks off on Tuesday 10th September from Dubbo. They will ride into Bulga on Sunday 15th September and you are invited you to join them as they arrive over the Bulga Bridge and reach the famous Bulga Tavern. Settle in for the afternoon with raffles, kids activities, live music from 3 Wordz and delicious meals. All kicking off from 12:00pm, Saturday, 15th September.

Clans on the Coast Celtic Highland Festival

The Clans of the Coast Celtic Highland Festival is returning to Raymond Terrace on Saturday September 21.  The Event has been moved to the outside fields at Lakeside Sports Complex at 13 Leisure Way and is evolving once again. Holding true to the Celtic traditions and culture, a mass pipes and drums will be held at the opening at the Grand Parade at 9.30 am and closing of the day at 3.30 pm with 10 Pipe Bands and 1 Brass Band as well as strong people competing in Highland games events. Reenactment groups will be in period costume.
Primary schools are being invited to again participate in the best dressed Celtic attire competition. The student will win some prize money to be equally split with their school. This will take place at 11am in front of stage one (the little one). We invite the public to find out more about their heritage by visiting the clans’ tents at the event. New for 2024 is an all-day Scottish Highland Dance Competition run by Newcastle Highland Dancing Association. During their break at 12.30pm, the Irish Dancers will showcase their skills on the boards (on the big stage).
To round out the offering’s stalls will be placed around the edge of the fields and Haggis will be available for lunch. For something different instead of our traditional Ceilidh we are supporting Limerick Modern Celtic Band at the Clare Castle Hotel from 8pm till 11pm on Friday the 20th of September at 17 William Street in Raymond Terrace.
Tickets for Clans on the Coast Celtic Highland Festival on Saturday the 21st of September 2024 are now available online at clansonthecoast.com.au and we do support companion card. You must show it at the gate if you book online or just present it as you get your tickets at the gate. Stu Webb has had an interest in growing orchids for the past 50 or so years. He is a member of a number of Orchid Societies in the Hunter Valley and Sydney areas. Stu has maintained a keen interest in the cultivation of orchids through his own orchid collection and for the last 7 years as orchid grower at the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens.  The Hunter Region Botanic Gardens has a significant orchid collection and Stu is part of a small and skilled orchid-growing team dedicated to this pursuit.
This day is designed to give great tips on how to pot orchids successfully and how to maintain them. Workshop includes Q&A session and guided tour of Orchid house. Hunter Region Botanic Gardens Medieval Tournament

Hunter Region Botanic Gardens are hosting a Medieval Tournament on Saturday October 5.  Featuring competitors from the LARP groups - Swordcraft Newcastle and Battlecry Fields of Ashnoor.
Competitions and demonstrations, including: large group fight demonstration, light armour sword and shield competition, heavy armour sword and shield competition, light armour longsword competition, archery competition, bandgun competition.  Public archery range, public bandgun range. How to make chainmail workshop. Displays and stalls.  Food stalls: toffee apples, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, sausage sizzle.  Dress in Character and go along and have some fun!

The AGM for the Karuah Oyster and Timber Festival, is being held on Wednesday 1 May and will see all committee positions open.  The AGM is to be held in the RSL  at 7pm on Wednesday 1 May.  The festival is set to be held on Saturday the 19th of October and there will be oyster opening competitions, woodchopping, the duck race and all of the amazing stalls back and ready to go.  The festival relies on volunteers to keep it running smoothly. From people who can offer a few hours in the day, to organisation heroes who can help with the behind the scenes planning up until it's held.  Any help is appreciated, whether it be an hour to being on the committee meeting once a month.

The 2024 Dungog Show is on November 8 and 9, with this year's show featuring the Timber Industry.  It celebrates and promotes local produce, talent and agrigculture from the Dungog District with everybody have fun along the way!

Held at the Dungog Showground, the Dungog Show is one of Australia's oldest country shows.  The Grand Parade is on Saturday at 2pm.  There really is something for everyone at this traditional country show!
