Hunter Heart Safe

Hunter Heart Safe is a group of local health care workers who volunteer their time to teach the community hands only CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) use.  Any community group, organisation, business or school can arrange a teaching session that is conducted in a COVID-safe manner. There are 3 main things to remember if someone is unconscious and not breathing:

CALL - call for professional help, ring 000

PUSH - start high quality chest compressions

SHOCK - if available apply and use a AED

Belmont 16s Photography Club

Belmont 16s Photography Club encourages and assists members to improve their photography through education and training programmes and a range of digital and print competitions. In 2022 the club print night competitions will be held at the Valentine Bowling Club on the second Wednesday of each month. It is also a great place to make new friends!

The club is always to looking welcome new members, and caters for photographers of all skill levels. You don't need expensive equipment to participate!

To join the photography club you need to be a current member of Belmont 16s. The Photography Club joining fee is $5.00 per year.

Environ-Mental Fundraiser

From now until April 2022, people on the west side of Lake Macquarie can clean up the environment, recycle their cans and bottles and help Morisset Rotary to deliver a range of mental health programs in local schools.
In the Environ-Mental campaign we ask people to recycle their cans and bottles in selected Return & Earn stations and to donate their deposits to Morisset Rotary. Participating stations are at Wangi Wangi, Wyee, Bonnells Bay and Doyalson.

Radio Yacht Squadron

The Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club has established a new Radio Yacht Squadron. Radio control model yachts sail competitively every Tuesday morning from 10am and every other Sunday in Throsby Creek, near the Carrington Bridge.  The Squadron is looking for new members to sail and and volunteers to coordinate races and operate a small tender boat used to lay marks for racing and retrieve distressed vessels.  If you're interested, turn up on Tuesdays or phone 0400 605 585 for more details.

National Parks and Wildlife Service – Summer Series

The community is invited to book a space in the People & Place Project Summer Series, presented by The Canopy in partnership with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services and the City of Newcastle.

NPWS Discovery Ranger will share their love of nature and inspire you to look closely at the details and hidden wonders of animals and nature. Observing details, colour, shape and texture of the surrounding display animals you will create your own masterpiece to take home.

The Canopy is a not for profit community organisation which provides services and activities to create and support 'Safe and Connected Communities'.

The Great Baby Dinosaur Show

The Great Baby Dinosaur Show has arrived at Newcastle Museum  and they  need you to help judge these cute cuddly dinos for the 'Best in Show' award! The judges have already awarded all the other ribbons like ‘Best roar’, ‘Coolest Spikes’ and ‘Most Colourful Scales’, but who will take out the top prize?

Summer Events – Speers Point Park

From 15 to 21 January, the lawns of the new Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima (MAP mima) will be transformed into a dreamy underwater garden with giant starfish, turtles and technicolour sea creatures that beckon you to come out and play. Take a ferry ride across the lake and arrive for a magical picnic, listen to an open-air concert or set off on a story quest.

The fun begins on the Saturday 15 January with Ocean Garden. Wander around this wonderful installation of larger-than-life inflatable sea creatures, or join their makers, Maurice and Matt from Goldberg Aberline Studio for a workshop to tap into your own creative flow.

As the sun goes down, the MAP mima stage will open up for a special concert featuring the first-ever performance of Andy Firth’s MAP mima Fanfare. This captivating and joyous piece of music celebrates the arrival of the new arts pavilion in Lake Macquarie City. Join us for this unique blend of brass, yidaki (didgeridoo) and synth that thunders like a storm and sparkles like the lake. After the performance, stay on for an evening light show and disco with DJ Pucko.

On Sunday 16 January, Catapult takes to the MAP mima stage with the final performance of their astounding contemporary dance piece, Drift.

Throughout the week the fun continues with kids yoga, story time and drawing sessions, art workshops, markets, roving performers and an evening of stargazing. Explore the new Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima and immerse yourself in our 360-degree audiovisual experience EMERGE by Plugin HUMAN.

Lake Mac Festival

Prepare yourself for two days packed full of family fun at the Lake Mac Festival. The weekend will kick-off on Saturday 22 January with the Family Fun Day - a free family breakfast at the new and improved Thomas H Halton Park, Croudace Bay from 8am-noon proudly sponsored by Carlo's IGA Woodrising. The morning will feature a barbecue, games, face painting and entertainment by The Little Scallywags and Tim Harding.

From 5-9.30pm, live sites and activations at Warners Bay foreshore, Brooks Parade Reserve Belmont, Rathmines Park, Swansea Bay Beach and the Museum of Art and Culture (MAC) at Booragul will bring fun for the whole family to enjoy. Music, food trucks and exciting activities will be available to all, as well as a fireworks spectacular at 9pm.  Then on Sunday 23 January,the community is invited to enjoy an afternoon of relaxed vibes, good food, wine and chill music at Speers Point Park from 11am-5pm.

Jesse’s Run

4 years ago in Wyong NSW, a young 19 year old, Jesse Thompson,  was tragically murdered in an horrific incident in the streets of Wyong. Jesse was a young lad with a beautiful family consisting of his partner and 2 little girls.

Jesse's Run is a memorial motorcycle ride to comemorate Jesse and his family and is being held on Sunday, January 30. The run will leave from Baker Park, Wyong with stands up at precisely 10am and will travel to Catherine Hill Bay Hotel for lunch. This is a non-club event.

Ride 4 Rescue – Hunter Valley

Ride 4 Rescue, Hunter Valley is a new one day mountain bike event, open to both the experienced mountain biker and novice. It's being held on Saturday 19 February 2022.

The ride is mostly fire trails and gravel roads with some single track and harder riding. There are ‘easy’ and ‘hard’ detours so you can manage your ride experience.

The Hunter Valley trail departs from Binnorie Dairy and offers riders three course lengths. Choose a ride length to suit your ability – short 15km, mid 46km or the 69km long course.

Lake Mac Float Your Boat

Float Your Boat is an open competition for boat owners to dress their boats with lights and take part in a flotilla parade for cash prizes. Lake Mac's Float Your Boat will be held on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 June 2022.

Held on our beautiful Lake Macquarie, spectators will line the shores to watch boats in a rainbow of colour cruise past before casting their vote for the People's Choice Award.

By decorating your boat in lights and taking part in the flotilla parade, you could win cash prizes.

The participation form for the 2022 event will be available early in 2022.
