Travelling Film Festival Newcastle 2022

The Travelling Film Festival returns to Newcastle Event Cinemas Kotara from 24-26 June, and brings you a brand-new program fresh out of the 2022 Sydney Film Festival.

Opening the festival is Australian director Macario De Souza’s 6 FESTIVALS, an emotional tale of friendship between three teenagers who throw themselves into a whirlwind of music festivals in an attempt to escape reality.

Also in the program are THE HUMANS, a subtle psychological thriller with striking cinematography, by writer-director Stephen Karam adapted from his Tony Award-winning play; EVERYBODY’S OMA, directed by Australian filmmaker Jason van Genderen, follows his NSW Central Coast family as they manage the health of their family’s matriarch but accidentally turn her into an online celebrity; MY OLD SCHOOL, directed by Jono McLeod, is a hybrid documentary with actor Alan Cumming’s voice over (THE GOOD WIFE) and animation to recreate a mind-blowing stranger-than-fiction story from 90s Glasgow.

“Toasting Mother Earth”

Newcastle Music Festival presents singer Anna Fraser, and Jack Symonds, accompanist and composer, on a musical journey through the worlds of American minimalism, Japanese music fusing Eastern and Western traditions, more new Australian works, and two world premieres: Ross Fiddes' "Toasting Mother Earth", setting words by Derek Dowding, and Jack Symonds' Guardare, meravigliarsi… Five Nocturnes for piano. Anna says: "Each piece selected for this program ... sends provocative messages for us all to be more attuned to the miniscule changes in our environment (like the yearly changes of the season) and not to allow ourselves to be complacent about caring for our shared ‘home’ but to make active changes each day to sustain our existence on this unique planet."  The concert is on at Adamstown Uniting Church on Thursday 11 August.
