Volunteers – Hammond Care Life Stories

Volunteers – Hammond Care Life Stories

HammondCare is running two 2 hour online training sessions on 20 & 27 February from 10am-12pm for anyone interested in becoming a Life Stories volunteer. This training will equip you with the knowledge and skills to record the personal stories of clients who want to be able to pass them on to family members.  If you are interested or know someone else who might be, please get in touch.  New Life Stories volunteers come on board via the same process as social visitor volunteers eg police clearance, online training modules.

About the program:
Volunteers record life stories in the language of the client, keeping true to their voice.  Families love the authenticity of hearing the idiosyncrasies of their loved ones voice tell their own story.  You will be capturing the voice of older generations – hearing incredible stories from their past, alongside precious family memories.  Clients often experience a therapeutic benefit of sharing their story.  A recent client said the process of writing the biography, “helped me to realise what a blessed life I had. All the marvellous things that we had experienced. The gifts in our lives – each other, our children and our friends.”

What level of commitment is involved?
In addition to your one hour visit with the client there will be travel and transcribing/typing time, so you may be spending up to five hours a week working on a biography.   The memoir is completed over 6-8 sessions. At the end of the process, our biographies are then printed and bound and presented to the client and/or their family.

Hunter Business Womens Network 2024 International Womans Day Event

Hunter Business Womens Network 2024 International Womans Day Event

Join the Hunter Business Womens Network for the 2024 International Women’s Day event – with none other than the Australian legend, Lisa Curry AO!  Lisa Curry is a household name, known for her incredible swimming career spanning 23 years, featuring three Olympic Games, two World Championships, and three Commonwealth Games. She’s the only Australian swimmer to hold records in nearly every stroke (except backstroke) from 50 to 400 meters.  But that’s not all! Lisa made history as the first Aussie swimmer to represent her country at major events while being a mum. Her 1992 Barcelona Olympics performance, at the age of 30 with two kids, still shines as a career highlight.

Lisa’s post-swimming life is equally impressive. She coached and competed with the Riggeroos, winning four World Championships in the 72km Outrigger Canoe race in Hawaii, and even conquered the 66km solo outrigger race from Molokai to Oahu.  Beyond sports, Lisa has been a fervent advocate for a healthy lifestyle, working as a TV presenter and brand ambassador for Uncle Tobys, P&O, Fernwood Fitness, and 30Plus for over 25 years. Her 23-year partnership with Uncle Tobys still stands as one of the longest and most memorable athlete-company collaborations.

Lisa Curry’s journey is pure inspiration, and we’re pumped to have her share her story and wisdom at the 2024 International Women’s Day HBWN event. Mark your calendars because this is an event you won’t want to miss!

Etchings: Rembrandt’s Legacy

Etching: Rembrandts legacy brings together selected Rembrandt etchings and prints by his contemporaries to demonstrate his innovative contributions to the art of etching as an independent medium. Potentially symbolic objects places the process of etching in a broader contemporary context where digital images are now predominant, the display of large contemporary etchings of domestic objects offers a glimpse into how etching continues to evolve.
