The Karuah community has had the opportunity to participate in deciding where the new Rural Fire Service Station will be built, with over 70 percent of respondents opting for Engel Avenue.

The station can now commence the design phase and securing funding from the Rural Fire Service, giving volunteers access to modern facilities and the ability to deliver quality service to the community.

Council’s Emergency Management Coordinator, Cameron Donaldson said they want to enable the community to have a say when there are options available.

“The station will be a lot bigger than the current one they have, it will have modern facilities and be much better than the one they are currently working out of,” he said.

The new location will be closer to the Karuah township in case of an emergency. It will also include more parking and have less impact on the sports field.

The online poll attracted 102 submissions.
