Federal Labor has matched the Coalition’s promise to build a $100 million westbound overpass on the New England Highway at the notorious Maitland roundabout intersection- something locals say should have been done years ago.
The full $112 million package announced by Transport Minister Catherine King also includes 12 million for upgrading Medowie Road and Bucketts Way intersections on the M1 should Labor win government.
Paterson MP Meryl Swanson says it’s needed in a growing region.
“We know seven or eight people every day want to call Paterson and particularly Maitland their home,” she said.
“You do need the infrastructure and services to support people when they’re moving to an area,” she said.
