A 25-year-old man is behind bars awaiting a court appearance accused of an attempted robbery in Newcastle.
Police were called to Perkins Street on Friday where it’s alleged a man was standing next to his car when he was approached by an unknown man armed with a syringe.
He got into the car and tried to start it.
The owner of the vehicle, who still had the keys, locked the man inside and called police.
It’s alleged the same man tried to enter a vehicle of a woman a short time earlier.
He was arrested after a brief struggle.
Police say he was in possession of methamphetamine along with ID and bank cards believed to be stolen.
