Nationals Candidate Sue Gilroy has announced a commitment to upgrading jetties in the Lake Macquarie area.

She says tourism is a growing part of the region’s economy and has pledged $800,000 as the election campaign heats up.

“This funding will provide upgrades to four jetties in Toronto, Warringal and Rathmines and what that means it is upgrades the mooring facilities to commercial tourism,” she said.

Recently released data from Tourism Research Australia found the Hunter has seen a 7% drop in trips to the region over the last two years.

The party says it would boost numbers if commercial vessels could dock at the Lake’s jetties.
