Newcastle’s Civic Theatre will re-open its doors at the end of the month after being closed since March due to the COVID-19 shutdown.

The 90-year-old theatre will begin welcoming audiences back from July 27 for small-scale productions while adhering to Coronavirus safety measures.

It’s part of staged return to productions at the Civic, allowing for 150 patrons in the main theatre and 50 in the Playhouse.

It’s hoped audience numbers can be increased to 500 later in the year.

An intimate comedy event will kick off the Civic’s return on August 1.
