Graham Wilson presents a program featuring local performances of fine music recorded in venues around the Hunter. The programs are written by Brian Wallace. This month the 2024 Newcastle Music Festival is featured.

01 Fanfare – music by Walther, Bach Hovhaness, Messiaen, Drury, Gerhswin, Peeters and Saint-Säens with organist David Drury and trumpeter Andy Fiddes.
08 Festival Choir in Concert – Christopher Allen directs the Festival Choir in works by Brahms and Orff, with pianists Erin Sweetman and Peter Guy.
15 Song of the Earth – Genevieve Dickson (mezzo-sporano), Iain Henderson (tenor) and Jonathan Wilson (piano) perform Mahler’s great song cycle using the score for piano and voice arranged by Mahler himself.
22 A Saxophone in Paris – the Nexas Quartet stands as a trailblazing saxophone ensemble redefining the boundaries of chamber music. On this program they play Debussy, Ravel, Bozza and Decruck.
29 Festival Chamber Choir in Concert – Christopher Allen directs and all a cappella choir including works by Dupré, Vittoria, Monteverdi, Lotti, Whitacre and Butterley.

16 Jun 2025, 11:39am Hunter Rostrum On the third program (15 June) Genevieve Dickson (mezzo-sporano), Iain Henderson (tenor) and Jonathan Wilson (piano) perform Mahler’s great song cycle using the score for piano and voice arranged by Mahler himself. Mahler’s extraordinary music “Song of the Earth” is perhaps the greatest song cycle of the 20th century. It captures the essence of the very human struggle that unites us, and ultimately, the quiet ecstasy of acceptance bringing inner peace.
