A Newcastle-based company has been awarded a multi-million dollar defence contract.
Thornton-based BlueZone Group Pty Ltd has been engaged to further develop the Navy’s unmanned surface vehicle, the Wave Glider.
It’s an autonomous vehicle which can be sent to sea for up to 18 months to detect submarines.
The Wave Glider will be built by Boeing.
BlueZone already services several underwater and surface vehicles for the Australian Defence forces.
BlueZone’s development contract is worth 7-million dollars.
Patron Senator Hollie Hughes will also open BlueZone’s new Unmanned Marine Systems Support Centre today (Thursday 15 October, 2020).
