Upper Hunter residents are calling for an investigation into the potential health effects of diesel fumes, after new studies revealed a link between the fumes and cancer.


The World Health Organisation recently categorised diesel fumes as a known carcinogen, which could have major implications for local communities exposed to the fumes through heavy road and rail transport.
These new findings place diesel fumes in the same category as other hazards such as asbestos and ultraviolet light.
