Marine Rescue crews were activated to assist two boaters stranded about 25 kilometres off Swansea Heads.

At about 10 o’clock last night (Sunday, March 23), radio operators received a distress call from an 11-metre catamaran after both engines failed.

A volunteer crew was assembled and the Lake Macquarie 30 reached the vessel at midnight.

A towline was secured and the two boaters were safely returned to shore just before 2:30 this morning (Monday, March 24).

“It was a seamless response, with excellent communication between the rescue boat, the disabled vessel, and our radio operators, who did a wonderful job,” Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie Unit Commander Jim Wright said.
