Police continue to search for a man after an armed holdup at a business at Lake Macquarie overnight.

About 10.00pm on Sunday, two male employees aged 73 and 46 were preparing to
close the Foodworks Supermarket in Wyee Road at Wyee.

A man entered the store armed with a shortened firearm and threatened the
men, demanding money.

The contents of three cash registers were handed over to the man, along with
a quantity of cigarettes.

He left the premises on a motorcycle making good his escape.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District were called and established a
crime scene.

Investigators believe that a man described as wearing a crash helmet, long
sleeved black hoodie, dark long pants, and black gloves may be able to assist
with their inquiries into the matter.

The man carried a sports bag, shortened firearm and rode a motorcycle that
is not further described.

Police have urged anyone with information about the armed robbery to come
forward.
