Geoff McGregor opens these two editions of Brass Encounters with Dance Fever arranged by Dr Kenneth Downie and performed by Yorkshire Building Society Band conducted by Dr David King.
David King is an Australian-born brass band conductor who built most of his career in the UK. He held a senior academic position in Manchester, originally as Chair of Music Performance at the University of Salford before retiring from that role in 2009. He is now International Chair in Brass Band at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
In the brass band world he is particularly associated with the Yorkshire Building Society Band, which he conducted from 1993 to 2006, leading it to major contest victories including European Championships and British Open titles.
Earlier he conducted the legendary Black Dyke Band (1989–1992), and more recently he has been closely linked with the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, serving as its musical director and winning major British titles with the band.
