Brass Encounters on 2NURFM features a wide array of brass music, showcasing some of the world’s most brilliant brass performers including:

  • The Australian Brass Band – Performing a range of traditional and contemporary brass band music.
  • The Canadian Brass – Known for their virtuosic performances, their tracks often include both classical and modern brass arrangements.
  • Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band – A renowned British brass band, often featuring energetic marches and fanfares.
  • Philip Jones Brass Ensemble – A legendary group that explores both traditional and experimental brass music.
  • Wynton Marsalis – The famous trumpeter, known for his contributions to jazz, also frequently features on the program in brass solos and ensemble pieces.
  • Trombones de Costa Rica – A unique and exciting brass ensemble known for their Latin-inspired brass music.

Tracks often include brass renditions of classical pieces, brass arrangements of popular songs, and original compositions by both historical and contemporary composers.

Geoff McGregor has been the recipient of several major awards for service to the Community through Brass Banding including Lake Macquarie Citizen of the Year in 2005.  He is a State and National Champion for both playing and marching and is a well known Tenor Horn player in this region and further afield.

The Hunter region of New South Wales has a long tradition of brass music and 2NURFM is the only local radio station that features brass music.
