Two men have died in a horror smash at Salamander Bay.

Police say four people were in a  Mazda  3 hatchback which left the road at the intersection of George Road and Soldiers Point Road just before 1am today and hit a tree.

A 34-year-old man died at the scene along with another man – both are yet to be formally identified.

The driver, a 30-year-old man, sustained serious injuries. He remains in a
serious condition at John Hunter Hospital.

A 30-year-old travelling in the back of the car sustained minor injuries. He
is in a stable condition at John Hunter Hospital.

While inquiries into the events leading up to the crash are continuing,
alcohol is considered a factor.

Emergency services are still at the scene of a serious crash at Salamader Bay.

A car ran off the road at the intersection of George Road and Soldiers Point Road just before 1.00am on Friday and hit a tree.

It’s understood at least one person died in the crash.
