A man’s been stabbed in the stomach during an alleged home invasion in Merewether.

Just before 3:00am on Tuesday the 19th of September, police were called to a home on Coane Street, following reports of a home invasion.

They were told four people forced their way into the home before two occupants confronted them.

During a resulting altercation, a 49-year-old male occupant was stabbed in the abdomen, and a 75-year old woman suffered minor injuries.

The alleged attackers fled the scene.

They were both taken to the John Hunter Hospital for treatment and it’s understood the man is in a critical condition.
