Four men have been rescued from waters North of Nelson Bay after their boat sank off Broughton Island.

At around 7.00am on Monday morning the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by the AMSAR (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) following the activation of an emergency distress.

The helicopter landed at Empire Bay, after the three men in their 20’s and a man in his 40’s were picked up out of the water by a passing boat after their boat sank.

The Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team assessed all and they were conveyed back to Nelson Bay in a stable condition by Volunteer Marine Rescue.

Broughton Island is an island 14 km north-east of Port Stephens.
