Jack Hodgins and Greg Bryce in 2024

G’day, this is Jack Hodgins from Vinyl Vibes.

Following the events of last weekend involving Greg Bryce, it didn’t feel right to continue the scheduling for Vinyl Vibes as normal. So, I’ve postponed the episode I was going to air this week and will instead re-run my interview with Greg.

I recorded this interview with Greg in July 2024, and it originally aired as part of my Newcastle series last year. It was a great opportunity to dive into one of Newcastle’s great musical journeys — the story of Greg.

Greg has been part of the Newcastle music scene since the ’70s, forming his first band, Meccalisa, which saw him record for the first time and famously open before Heroes on the night of the Star Hotel riot. He later formed DV8 in late 1979, and throughout the ’80s they became one of — if not the — biggest bands in Newcastle. With local hit albums like Stab in the Dark and singles such as Dry Your Eyes, the band cemented its place in Newcastle music history.

As Greg focuses on his recovery, I want this to be a celebration of his work so far, and a nod to the wonderful human being that he is.

Here’s to a quick recovery for the great Greg Bryce.

This episode will be re-aired on Sunday 29 March 2026 on 2NURFM 103.7.
