There’s been a fire in an underground carpark in Newcastle East.
The blaze began just after midday on Thursday at the four-storey Colliers Close property.
About 40 residents have been evacuated, some by ladders, after smoke began rising into the building.
Surrounding units have also been evacuated.
A car was alight, but the fire has since been contained.
Eight crews and more than thirty firefighters were at the scene of the blaze, as well as an incident response team.
No injuries have been reported.
Crews are now working to ventilate the units so residents can return home.
Investigators will look into the incident, and it’s understood Department of Housing officials will also attend the scene.
