On this edition of Vinyl Vibes, Jack Hodgins interviews folk music legend Peggy Seeger, who grew up in a musical family with her composer mother and musicologist father.

Influenced by the blues and folk music collected by Alan Lomax, she fondly recalls meeting Leadbelly in 1942.

Their conversation covers her childhood, the pre-internet appreciation of music, her thoughts on the emergence of rock and roll in 1955, the making of her first album, the creation of her iconic song “I’m Gonna be an Engineer,” her journey into feminism, and her new album, The First Farewell.

They also discuss her songs, including “The Mother” and “The Ballad of Springhill.”
