Innovation specialists at the University of Newcastle are using 3D modelling technology to uncover the secrets of the 18th Century, Victorian Theatre on Perkins Street.

The once popular theatre which closed in 1999 is now being virtually brought back to life, with Sydney firm Century Venues planning to eventually restore the building.

With the theatre’s interior largely a mystery, the team are now calling on Novocastrians to help with the project, urging anyone with any information or relics to come forward.

IT Innovation Specialist at the University, Gaute Rasmussen, says the more information they can get, the more truthful the experience they can create.

“Specifically we are after anything between 1890 and 1905. Any pictures of the interior, floor plans, posters, pictures of performances, tickets that we can use to enhance the experience in some way,” he said.
Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact either Dr Gillian Arrighi or Gioni DiGravio.
