Four people have been arrested after police pursued a pair of stolen cars through Lake Macquarie suburbs early Tuesday morning.

On Monday evening, a house was broken into in Lambton and two sets of car keys stolen.

About 5:20am on Tuesday morning, Lake Macquarie police spotted one of the stolen vehicles speeding through Charlestown.

They pursued the vehicle until it was deemed too dangerous and a risk to the public’s safety.

The vehicle was found on Hillsborough Road, where its four occupants got out of the vehicle and ran.

The driver, who’s not old enough to hold a license, was arrested a short distance away.

Hillsborough residents were told to stay indoors while a police dog scoured the suburbs, after reports of the occupants running through backyards.

The remaining three youths were located hiding under a house nearby.

All were arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station to be charged.
