Two men have been released pending further inquiries after shots were fired into a home unit in Newcastle on Friday night.

Police say just before 11pm on 1st September, members of the public contacted police after two gun shots were heard on Abbott Street at Wallsend.

Police attended and spoke to several residents and secured several items – they were also approached by one resident who showed them gun shot damage to the walls of his unit.

Several crime scenes were established but no firearms were located, and thankfully there were no reports of any injuries.

Two men, a 30-year-old and 33-year-old, were the two spoken to by police at Waratah Police Station but were released.

Investigators from Newcastle City LAC have appealed to the community for anyone with information about suspicious activity in the area to report it immediately.
