A fishing ban around a mangled fish farm at Port Stephens has been extended until February.
The temporary ban was put in place after 20,000 Kingfish escaped from a breeding pen last month.
5,000 of the predatory species have since been recovered.
The Fisheries Department has decided to extend the ban in the hope of recapturing more Kingfish.
Findings on what caused the breeding pen to break up are due to be released this week.
