In Episode 2 of the Newcastle series on Vinyl Vibes, Rick Pointon, vocalist and bass player of The Second Thoughts, reflects on his musical journey, particularly throughout the 1960s.
Rick’s career began in 1963 with his first band, The Mystics, during the instrumental music craze. By 1964, he joined The Mystery Men and later became part of The Second Thoughts. In 1966, the band recorded a hit single at St. Clare Studios, with “Run Back Home” and “The World Keeps Going Round” reaching number one in Newcastle.
After The Second Thoughts, Rick formed Butter Suite in 1969. He has also written a book titled Hey Rock and Roll, focusing on his experiences in music and the Newcastle music scene of the ’60s and ’70s.
