UPDATE:

A man has tragically died after a crash on the Pacific Highway in Port Stephens this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 11am after reports a Toyota Echo left the road and hit a tree.

The man was the driver of the vehicle and is believed to have been in his 20s.

His passenger, a woman believed to also be in her 20s, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hspital with non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation is underway and a report is being prepared for the Coronor.

EARLIER

The Hunter’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter has attended a serious accident on the Pacific Highway, 2km north of Raymond Terrace this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Rangers Road just before 11:05am.

There are reports two people, a male and a female, were trapped in their car on the median strip after a single vehicle rollover.

The female was trapped for some time and is being taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment. No details yet on the condition of the male.

One northbound lane and one southbound lane are closed on the Pacific Highway at Rangers Road with motorists being advised to use Medowie and Richardson Roads instead.
