The Scottish pianist, Steven Osborne, joins the Goldner String Quartet to play Shostakovich and Schumann in a thrilling concert recorded in Newcastle. That’s on Sunday’s edition of Hunter Rostrum.
The Piano Quintet is G minor, Op. 57 by Dmitri Shostakovich is one of his best-known chamber works. It was written in 1940 for the Beethoven Quartet founded by graduates of the Moscow Conservatory in 1922.
Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, Op. 44, was composed in 1842, and is noted for its exuberant character, and moved the genre into a more romantic style.
