Greyhound activists are up in arms after the death of a third greyhound at the Gardens this year, over the weekend.
Two-year-old Gort the Gift collided with another dog while negotiating the back-straight turn on Friday night, suffering a fractured shoulder.
She was euthanised by the on-track vet, but the stewards’ report says three other dog were also injured at the meet.
It’s prompted backlash from the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds, arguing curved tracks such as the Gardens need to be rethought for the sake of dogs’ safety.
81 percent of the 27 racing deaths across the state this year have occurred after incidents on track turns.
