Construction on a sand container seawall to prevent further erosion of the coast has begun at Stockton.
17 Mega Geotextile Sand Containers will be put in place along the coast, using more than 10 thousand tonnes of sand and spanning around 100 metres in length.
Weather permitting, the seawall is expected to take around 12 weeks to complete and residents should be aware beach access will be restricted while the work is completed.
The seawall is designed to be a medium-term solution for the site and is expected to last between five and seven years.
Newcastle City Council is currently working with the state government to find a long term strategy for coastal erosion in the region.
