While this program is drawn from the standard repertoire, Geoffrey Saba’s performances can also range from Haydn to music from the turn of the 20th century, and have notably included completions of unfinished Schubert sonatas. It is with one of those that this recital begins, the Sonata in F sharp minor, completed in 1968 by Walter Dullo. He was a German musicologist and lawyer who settled in Australia after the War and was the co-founder of Musica Viva. Curiously, he became best known here as the manufacturer of high-quality chocolates!
